St Marcellin Evangelical Church

I was invited to preach in St Marcellin Evangelical church this morning. My mum was brought up there, but apart from one of my cousins, there is no-one from the family left there. We had a good time with that fellowship. I preached from Colossians 1:15-23, and the message was well received. There were 12 people present, not including ourselves. After the service, we had lunch together in the building.

The weather didn’t allow us to go out much, but we had a quick look around town as a family before heading back. We looked for my grand-parents house, but it had disappeared behind a high fence and we couldn’t see the house from the street anymore.

Colloque Biblique Francophone, Days three and four

On Thursday morning, Don Carson concluded his series on the expression “Son of God” as a Christological title with some practical applications. He was followed by Regis Berdoulat, from lausanne Reformed Baptiste Church, who gave a historical conference on a 19th French missionary to South Africa. Historical conferences are a difficult exercise and Régis seems to have mastered the art. He was fascinating.

In the afternoon, I went to Lyon with Andrew from Nantes, and Ian, from Rennes. We had a walk around town and got soaked. I studied in Lyon and it was nice to be back. The town center has changed, but not too much.

Later, there was a panel session with the speakers. There were good questions, and a lot of the discussion turned around evangelism and the church. Alan Davey closed the day with a fascinating message on Ephesians 2.

Friday morning was the last, with two talks. the first speaker concluded what he had started saying on Tuesday with some practical applications, and Charles Nicolas also gave some practical considerations on the subject of pastoral care of the sick and dying.

I left just after lunch and arrived back in Chambéry at 4pm.

Colloque Biblique Francophone, day two

Another good day. Don Carson spoke twice on the subject of the Title Son of God. He gave a general overview of the various meanings of the expression in the morning, and concentrated on Jesus in the afternoon, looking in details at Hebrews 1 and John 5:16-30.

Charles Nicolas spoke about Pastoral Care for the sick and dying. It was good and challenging. In the evening, Alan Davey continued on the subject of union with Christ.

In the afternoon, I went for a walk with Andrew Lytle, from Nantes. It was good to catch up with the news and enjoy the sunshine.

Colloque Biblique Francophone, Day one

I went to Lyon from Chambéry on the train, and arrived at the Colloque early. It takes place in the Maison St Joseph, in St Foy Lès Lyon in a beautiful setting. The first two speakers were challenging and thought provoking. One of them was my friend and colleague Alan Davey who preached on union with Christ.

It is good to be here and meet friends and make new friends.
